Non-sclerotic Margin

The
term "Sclerotic Margin" for
intraosseous lesions refers to a thin or thick, complete or incomplete rim of
bone at the interface of the lesion with cancellous bone. For the extraosseous
lesions this refers to the presence of a bony rim in the interface of the lesion
with the surrounding soft tissues. It should be noted that
the program considers the bony rim outlining an extraosseous tumor as an
intact cortex and not a periosteal reaction. Detection of a sclerotic
margin may require considerable scrutiny and the presence of even a tiny
rim of bony
density in
the interface of
the intraosseous lesion with the cancellous bone is enough
to constitute a positive response for a sclerotic margin.
